Not This Time

Who wants a smelly ol' book deal anyway??? Well, I wouldn't have minded! I will not be continuing the ride to the next round with the chosen 50, but I wish the best to all of the contestants who have a love and appreciation for the art of newspaper comic strips. I am glad to have met some other enthusiastic cartoonists, and I feel excited and optimistic by the interest I see revolving around the art form that I love so dearly.

I am very grateful to have stumbled upon this contest. It inspired me to finally add some drawing to my dreaming and pushed me to realize my Comfy Kozy world, which has proven to be exactly that for me. I will be spending a lot of time in the Comfy Kozy place I created, and hopefully one day I will have the opportunity to invite everyone else inside.

This experience has reminded me that I am surrounded by the most wonderful support group anyone could ever wish for. Thank you for believing in me and for all your love. Today is sincerely is my most beautiful birthday to date. I am grateful and aware that I have been Blessed with immeasurable gifts. Thank you my Family. Thank you my Friends. :) Rene xoxo

oh! And even though they can't read, thank you to my furry little Loves who curl up on the couch with me while I write and draw.

Introducing Inkie and June - Test Animation

hoooray... they are alive! :) As some of you may know, I just finished a summer course at SVA for Stop-Motion animation. We were taught how to make these little guys and bring them to life... Awesome class! Forgive the ugly trial stamp across the screen, I have yet to purchase the program. More work to come in the future!

Illustration Friday "Adapt"

Did I make the dead line? Geeeez, tough word this week! I love a challenge but this week's word "adapt" had me near stymied! Does this weird drawing need an explanation? The cat has been adapted to suit the dog's needs.... she needed a back scratcher! um yeah yeah well, it's better than some of the other ideas I came up with! I must say I am quite impressed by the creative problem solving skills of the other Illustration Friday participants.... Good job everyone! :)

Illustration Friday "Cracked"

As you may have noticed over the past few weeks, Illustration Friday has served as a stage for my Comfy Cat & Cozy Dog characters. I am still developing this duo in doodles based on my actual pets. The characters continue to grow, evolve, and find themselves with each day that I draw them (as do I.) I believe consistency in their look and style will naturally emerge with time.

This week's IF word, "CRACKED" evoked a sad memory which inspired this illustration. A few months ago, I came home to find the shattered pieces of my first & most treasured ceramic creation irreparably strewn across my tile floor. It's still painful to think of, but I know that hurting me is last thing that my sweet little kitty-boy would ever want to do. I also know that Cozy was just glad that SHE wasn't the one responsible!

I am not usually that comfortable sharing rough sketches of early concepts but here's a little idea that visited my mind today. Her name is Sarahbee. She's my smart & sassy fairy guide & she's a funny little sprite.

Illustration Friday- "Hierarchy"

The Hierarchy of my Kingdom: Although Queen Kosey yearns for power, it is the humble King Scratchy who rules the land. I am merely a servant to them both.

Illustration Friday- "Theater"

Can I hear the word "theater" and NOT think of my beautiful talented niece Jackie? Not only did I think of her... I had to draw her! iluj

Illustration Friday- "Impossibility"

Over this past week I have been visited and revisited again by images, text, and ideas all pertaining to the impossible. When I saw that this week's Illustration Friday word was "Impossibility," I thought the timing was right for me to enter my first I.F. submission. While trying understand the meaning of impossible, I realized that I must now reexamine what I believe is possible.

pictures with our PEEPS

Happy Bunny Day

The inspiration for this drawing was not this Easter but my wonderful beautiful sister's birthday last summer. I often doodle bunnies and had been drawing bunnies over the past week but this picture was already scanned in my computer so I thought I'd share it as my Easter post. It seemed like an appropriate choice since I will have the good fortune of spending this holiday at my sister's home today along with the rest of my incredible family.

Enjoy the day, celebrate spring and the birth of new things.
Happy Easter
